Luis Miguel 2 - Mexico En La Piel
Luis Miguel can always be counted on to deliver romance upon demand, with his trademark persuasive vocal style and luxurious musical arrangements. But with 2004's MEXICO EN LA PIEL, he breaks with tradition (at least on the title track), to acknowledge his fealty to his home country of Mexico. However, the album is by no means a set of patriotic ballads--Miguel remains as devoted to romance as ever on "De Que Manera Te Olvido," with the aid of stirring, passionate strings, and "Echame a Mi La Culpa," with its mariachi-flavored horns. His specialty is the pleading, broken-hearted lover, a role he plays with infectious enthusiasm on "Que Seas Feliz," but on "Un Mundo Raro," he acknowledges that love of one's country can exert a pull as strong as the love of another person. Miguel's lush, string- and horn-laden arrangements work their usual magic, and his expressive vocals exert their compelling power over the entirety of MEXICO EN LA PIEL.
